HEAR A WASHINGTON INSIDER'S VIEW ON THE ISSUES FACING THE APPAREL INDUSTRY
From February 2016 through January 2020, Rick Helfenbein served as President and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA). His years at the helm of this DC-based trade association, where he continues to serves as special advisor, have given him a unique perspective on the political issues affecting the apparel industry at home and abroad.
Speaking exclusively to RMS members and guests, Rick will touch on:
Lobbying in the halls of Congress in today’s tumultuous environment: The inside story of what it’s like to get a piece of legislation passed.
The topsy-turvy world of international trade and tariffs and the devastating impact they are having on the many brands and consumers affected by these measures.
The outlook for the U.S. retail industry, as companies struggle to gain share of wallet from an increasingly demanding consumer.
As always, there will be time for a lively Q&A.
At AAFA, Rick Helfenbein is credited with overseeing a full overhaul of the operation, including comprehensive rebranding and revamped management systems. Prior to becoming President and CEO, Rick served two years as Chairman of the AAFA Board of Directors. He often appears on TV networks, including CNBC, CNN, Fox Business and BBC. He has also written numerous op-eds for The Hill, Forbes, WWD, Sourcing Journal, Just-Style and Morning Consult.
Previously, Rick was president of all USA operations for Luen Thai Holding Limited, the largest publicly listed apparel manufacturing and supply chain services company on the Hong Kong Exchange. The company manufacturers clothing, shoes and accessories for some of the most recognized brands in the industry, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Adidas and Michael Kors.
