John Shanley has been inducted posthumously into the Footwear News Hall of Fame. John was known by many as a brilliant footwear analyst, but the determination that built his career also extended into every aspect of his personal life. Colleagues, friends and family members remember John, who passed away in February 2009 after a four-year battle with cancer, for his tireless energy and zest for life. John was a member of the Retail Marketing Society since the late 1980s, served on the RMS Board since 1991, and served one term as president of the Board.

John’s aptitude for stock picking was acknowledged multiple times with the most coveted equity analyst award, The Wall Street Journal’s “Best on the Street,” which is based on the annual results of stock market recommendations. He won in 2004, 2005 and 2007.  John was inducted into the Footwear News Hall of Fame in November 2009. Howard Levitt, president and CEO of Tourneau, received the USO’s Distinguished Service Award. This award is given each year to a member of the armed forces and a civilian who demonstrate leadership and distinction in their service to our country and support of our troops. “I am deeply honored and humbled to be recognized amongst such a distinguished group of brave men and women who selflessly and courageously keep our country safe and preserve our freedoms each and every day," said Howard upon accepting this award.

He added, "In support of our military, Tourneau was one of the first brands to partner with the War Veterans Watchmaker Initiative of the American Watch Guild. Through this important vocational training program, we hope to repay some of the sacrifice and service of returning war veterans by giving them an opportunity to apprentice under our experienced watch technicians in learning the historic craft of watch repair, which is in high demand and well-paying."
